The modem rate is NOT locked (I'm using an SE with a standard modem cable). I had changed STR 303 in TabbyNet to send B1 to the modem when dialing out, but I've since removed it. Actually, I don't think Pete formally announced it. I've got it FREQable on my BBS as "Message Thing 1.0.cpt". (If you FREQ from me, remember to use the FREQ password.) I can tell you what it does with Cope. You configure it with pathnames and put in your event chain in place of the Call module. Then, when you crash your boss, it goes into the proper folder, sends the outgoing mail, and gets the incoming mail. It works if the Tabby folder is on the same disk, a different disk on the same machine, or on a disk connected to a networked machine. Cope then continues processing as if it had just called the boss and exchanged mail packets. Yeah but my boss doesn't want to fill up his HD space with packets for points, and I don't blame him. Anyway, I found that ArcPop unarcs them without me having to change their creators and all that. My guess is this will be fixed in the next version What mailer software are you pointing from? If Tabby, tell the sysop to set you up as a node and not a point. Tabby *points* are designed to work with Copernicus. For MacWoof, they should be set up as nodes (i.e., not in the point areas at all). Then, instead of several individual packages, you'll get one (larger) package with all the packets and MacWoof will unarc it rather nicely. If your Avatex has a command for controlling the DCD line, it might be set wrong. If your DCD on the modem end is connected to the CTS (er, HsK in) and your modem is set to show the true state of carrier (versus continuously on) then Tabby should recognize when the connection is lost and reset itself. What it comes down to is that either the Avatex doesn't have a setting for true carrier detect (which I doubt...) or else it is the cable. Or, I suppose it could be neither and be some wierd and unforseen problem with something else. Who knows... EID:011c 16fd1140 Hi Eric! Thanx for your info on Tabby connecting with DBridge!! Now things get a lot clearer to me. Finally I got everything up and running real well. I thought that maybe a couple of other people could have a somehat easier life, so Im writing my experiences... I am using Hermes with Tabby and in the beginning I used a (special) Hardwarehandshaking cable that had Pin 7 on the Mac side connected to the modems CD line. This way Hermes went just beautiful! The only thing you lost was the ability to hang up via DTR, because you needed the RTS line for handshaking! But that aint a biggy because its easy hang up via +++ ATH. Then there came Tabby along and all my dreams of HwHs went away. At the beginning I tried to use Tabby with my HwHs-cable but after a few connects I figured that it doesnt work! As everybody (but not all) knows that Tabby doesnt use HwHs with Pin 7 as CD Software flowcontrol came to town :-) With a proper cable and the modem configured for Softflowcontrol everything turned out fine! The last thing I couldnt figure out was something Eric Larson told me here in Tabby Echo. The connects with DBridge were much slower than comaprable ones with FrontDoor. And, even prior to the memory upgrade, one of my three daily scheduled Events was recognized and ran properly - this leads me to suspect the others will begin happening also. So, now, my last (yeah, right!) big question is this: After incoming CrashMail (and possibly after an Event) Hermes is re-started with one interesting change: instead of the usual "Waiting..." prompt I get "Waiting for Mailer..." and my terminal doesn't re-set. I cannot enter Terminal Mode and, while a few calls have gotten through, for the most part incoming calls are ignored until I quit Hermes and then re-start it. I can also reset the term by going into Node Prefs and clicking off DTR then clicking it back on again. The problem goes to basic differences. For instance, in SS you can have a path name to the DL file so it need not be in the same folder as the directory. In Hermes it is my understanding that all files must be in the same folder for each file directory. The basic problem is compatability for all BBS systems. The Iconic BBS systems require less than 50 items in a folder for easy display of a folder. The Hermes display has difficulty dealing with multiple folders. If Hermes accepted path names we could build a conversion tool in no time. But without that function I'm stuck. The author of Hermes told me that I should not support Iconic BBS's and use his format instead. As we run an Iconic BBS this is not possible. I just wish I could get Hermes to provide paths. This is too small a market to justify the effort. Besides I run TF and SS and I do this for the love of our BBS systems and ease of use. If Hermes supported paths I could support all of the BBS platforms and Hermes. If the port changes that line or if the line is not connected to the computer or pulled active, I can see where the modem might drop back to the "default" condition. If not, you'll have to wait for the release, which will be VERY soon now.) The only restriction with PointMail packets is that you have to add the areanames beforehand. If you forget, you can just use MacWoof's "unARC" and "Import" commands to get the messages out; after that, the areas will then be in there. Easier just to add them to your Areas menu, though. (With regular Echomail ARC packets (and manually-added PointMail packets) it'll automatically add the areaname.) For example, under Tabby Maint, in the Echomail Areas, for each echo that a MacWoof point gets, I put in their node number, such as 30720/1. Under PointMail Groups, I enter absolutely nothing for MacWoof points. Conversely, for Cope points, under Echomail Areas, I enter 0/x where x is the category number for that echo. Then, under Pointmail Groups, I enter the point number such as 1 or whatever. For Cope points, that is how the Tabby Docs say to do it. When I got my first MacWoof point, I assumed I set it the same way as Cope points. Well, the point then had to manually deARC his packets because MacWoof wouldn't. Rick Bollar suggested I set the MacWoof point up as a node (i.e. not listed in the PointMail Groups), and it has been working ever since. Cope points get multiple ARCed package, one for each echo the point receives. MacWoof points get one giant ARCed package containing all the echos. So, in my case, they are set up very differently.
